Salmon Brocolli PastaFast Healthy Family Pasta Meal

This broccoli salmon pasta recipe is a favorite on days when we’re both going to be late home and just want something that can be on the table in the time it takes to enjoy a sherry.

It takes as long to make as the pasta takes to cook, so tagliatelle is a good pasta choice as it holds the cheesy sauce well, whilst being quick to cook and looks like you’ve put rather more effort into it than you have. With just four ingredients, there’s very little work to do on this quick salmon pasta meal, and there’s nothing that can go wrong.

You also get a healthy hit of broccoli, and the benefit of a fish portion from the meal. Choose cheaper cuts or offcuts of salmon as you’re going to flake it up anyway, there’s no need for the most aesthetically pleasing steaks. We’ll often buy “reduced for quick sale” fillets of salmon, wrap them in pairs and pop them in the freezer to be used as needed.

Whilst it’s best to prepare this meal in a steamer pan, you can cook it in just one large saucepan, so it’s a perfect recipe for a small kitchen or for student cooking.  This is the ideal item for this dish as you can easily steam the broccoli and salmon above the pasta as it cooks.

Broccoli Salmon Pasta Ingredients
  • Prep time: 15 min
  • Ready in: 15 min
  • Yields: 4 greedy people

  • 1 lb tagliatelle – or whatever pasta you have on hand

  1. Put a large pan of water on to boil
  2. Meanwhile chop the broccoli into florets
  3. When the water is boiling add the pasta – set the timer for the required cooking time for your pasta
  4. If using a steamer pan add the broccoli then the salmon to the steamer and cook alongside the pasta
  5. If you don’t have a steamer:
  6. – chop the salmon into chunks
  7. – add the broccoli to the cooking pasta 5 minutes before the end of its cooking time
  8. – add the salmon to the cooking pasta 2 minutes before the end of its cooking time
  9. Drain the pasta, broccoli and salmon saving about half a cup of cooking water
  10. Put the cream cheese into the hot pan and stir to melt
  11. If using a steamer, flake the salmon now
  12. Add the broccoli, pasta and salmon to the cheese
  13. Toss and serve immediately with fresh ground black pepper

Fast Food At Home

This is a great recipe for college students and new small apartment cooks as it only uses one pan and requires close to zero cooking skills. You can use frozen broccoli, and microwave it with the salmon, even using microwave pasta and scale down the ingredients for just one serving.

Sometimes it’s nice to relax and spend time cooking a lovely meal, but most of the time its a battle to get a quick, nutritious meal on the table after work.
